The port of Torrevieja is undergoing one of the most significant urban transformations in its history. What for decades was primarily a port area is evolving into a major leisure, tourism, and commercial hub on the waterfront, designed to make the promenade one of the most attractive spots on the entire Costa Blanca.

The ambitious project aims to integrate the port with the city, creating a modern space designed for both residents and international visitors. When the works are completed, the new port will offer a combination of restaurants, shopping areas, leisure activities, renovated promenades, and ample public spaces along the Mediterranean.

A project worth more than 40 million Euros

The port's redevelopment has become one of the largest recent urban development investments in the city. The total budget has exceeded €43 million, reflecting the scale of the project and its importance for Torrevieja's economic and tourism future.

The plan includes the transformation of an area of ​​more than 40,000 m² in the heart of the city, where a new leisure and commercial complex known as Paseo del Mar will be developed.

Key features include:

• Creation of a new seafront promenade integrated with the port
• Construction of six modern buildings for leisure, dining, and retail
• Extensive pedestrian areas and sea viewpoints
• New connections between the port, the promenade, and the city center
• Improvements to the Levante breakwater and pedestrian access

All of this with the aim of creating a new social and tourist hub in the heart of Torrevieja.

A large underground parking garage for the city center

One of the first infrastructure projects already completed is the new underground parking garage at the port, which has approximately 640 parking spaces, including areas for electric vehicles and people with reduced mobility.

This parking garage solves one of the city center's biggest challenges: parking during the tourist season. Furthermore, it frees up surface space for pedestrian areas, outdoor seating, and leisure spaces, which is key to improving the visitor experience.

Restaurants, leisure and new international brands

The new leisure complex will feature dozens of shops and restaurants, and is expected to attract both local businesses and major international franchises.

Among the brands and concepts that have expressed interest in or been mentioned in connection with the project are:

• McDonald's
• Vips
• Ginos
• KFC
• Lizarran
• La Tagliatella

In addition to restaurants, the project includes cinemas, a bowling alley, and entertainment venues, transforming the port into a true open-air leisure center overlooking the sea.
 

The return of the fair and the traditional market

During the construction work, some of the promenade's most traditional features had to be temporarily relocated, such as the funfair and the popular hippie market.

However, once the renovation is complete, these spaces will once again be integrated into the port's new design, with an area prepared for more than 200 market stalls, maintaining the promenade's historical and touristic character.

The combination of tradition and modernity will be one of the most appealing aspects of the new port.

A completely renovated seafront promenade

Another key part of the project is the connection between the port and the seafront promenade via new walkways and pedestrian areas.

Among the highlights is a walkway over 200 meters long that will connect the Levante breakwater with the new leisure area and the Juan Aparicio promenade, creating a continuous path along the sea.

The goal is for visitors and residents to be able to walk from the city center to the port without interruption, enjoying new viewpoints and public spaces.

Scheduled opening:

The final stages of integrating the port and the city are underway, with the aim of having the entire project fully completed by around the summer of 2026, at which point the port will unveil its new look.

When the entire project is finished, the port of Torrevieja will become:

• one of the most modern seafront promenades on the Costa Blanca
• a new leisure and dining hub
• a key destination for international tourism
• and an economic engine for the city
